![]() You'll probably understand housing blocks better if you examine some of the cities you downloaded, or use the search feature of this forum to find and read threads on housing blocks.Īll buildings that have labor access share in the city-wide labor "pool". Is there a place one on of these sites that gives you a complete list of EXACTLY which walkers go through road blocks and which ones don't. ![]() located outside of the block?Īll of the storage units can be blocked off in one section right, because all of the walkers who need to get to them will, right? What about labor if you blocked such a section, will workers still be able to get to them if they're blocked off, or would you have to put some houses in that blocked area in order to get workers? ![]() So, a bazaar buyer located within a block will leave the block to go buy pottery, beer, etc. Can they work in the mines, in Gov't jobs, in the granery, etc. Next, you said laborers going to work on a farm will walk through a road block, so, that means someone living within this "blocked" housing block can work outside of that block, but you also said that walkers looking for labor do not pass the block, meaning any walkers within that block looking for labor will only look for it within that block.so, can people living in this block work in other industries other than farming located outside of their block? If so, how can they obtain those jobs if they can't leave their block to look for tham. Is there any type of unit that should NOT be blocked of within a single housing block, palace, courthouse, etc.? What about a tax collector? I'm assuming he'll walk through the blocks and does not need to be blocked off within a housing block. So, I should set up a housing block off of the main road, and then set up a road block entering in to this block, but of course not ON the main road.and within this housing block, what do I HAVE to have within this block since I have a road block? Water supply, architect, fire houses, temples, entertainment, a bazaar, granery, hunting lodge, apothecary, doctor anything else? actually, can't the granery and hunting lodge be located elsewhere and still get food to the bazaar within the block? Okay.I've downloaded some cities but haven't gotten a chance to look at them, but let me try and get some clarification here. ![]() Or look at a city from the Downloads (perhaps one you've already completed)-many of them use housing blocks effectively. Try using the search function (at the bottom of the Game Help forum page) with "block" or "hous" (without quotes) as the Subject. They're very useful, allowing a lot of houses to be supported by a set of service buildings (water supply, bazaar(s), temple(s), physician, etc). We typically call a little neighborhood that includes everything that's directly needed for houses (in the diagram above, the housing, lower road, and associated buildings) a "housing block". The lower road has all of the buildings that houses need (water supply, bazaar, etc). The upper road extends into an industrial area, and might have mines, workshops, work camps, granaries, etc. (Losing labor access is a common problem for beginning roadblock users.) Try something like this: Using roadblocks effectively takes a little thought. Roadblocks are simple: walkers who have a specific destination (such as cart pushers, laborers going to farms, entertainers going from their "school" to a venue, and bazaar buyers) will go through a roadblock, but walkers who just wander around (such as citizens looking for labor, water carriers, architects, priests, entertainers generated by a venue, and bazaar traders) will not. I figure that there's no need for the walkers to waste their time going to this area, so I try to put up roadblocks at the beginning of this road, but then when I do that the "person" who comes out of those newly built water supply units, I guess they're the ones who go out and look for employees, they get blocked in by the roadblock. Still go through the roadblock and leave the neighborhood, pretty much defeating the purpose of it? Is it really practicle to expect to be able to build everything that's needed in to each neighborhood you set up?Īlso, I usually set up my water supplies on a dead end road connected to a housing block. ![]() Should I set be setting up little neighborhoods that includes everything that's needed and then put a roadblock at the main entrance to that area and block everyone in? Won't the water carriers, architect's, firemen, etc. Okay.what are all the walkers and who is it that won't pass a road block? I've tried to use road blocks, but it seems like the only place I feel like I'm using them appropriately is at the entrance to the farms. ![]()
