Retiring SMU ExamSoftĪs Respondus LockDown Browser has been implemented for use with Canvas for the purpose of offering secure online quizzes, SMU will be discontinuing the ExamSoft online quizzing service this summer. For our FAQ and more information about using Respondus LockDown Browser in your class, visit our services page at smu.edu/OIT/Services/lockdownbrowser or contact the IT Help Desk to set up an appointment for help getting started. The Academic Technology Services group will offer training opportunities featuring this solution in the months ahead. LockDown Browser has been piloted over the last several months with Canvas’ quiz tool and allows faculty to offer secure Canvas quizzes to students. If students attempt to take a “locked down” quiz through Canvas without the secure browser, they will be directed to download the application on their Windows or Apple systems, or to use the LockDown Browser on an iPad. To obtain the latest version (2.1.2. Existing installs of LockDown Browser will NOT be auto-updated. This release contains an updated user interface, plus security improvements. ![]() ![]() The specialized browser, designed exclusively for secure quizzing, is stripped of all plugins and add-ons to provide a stable and secure testing experience. If students are required to install LockDown Browser themselves, they’ll receive a download URL unique to that institution. LockDown Browser for Mac, version 2.1.2.01, has been released. We are pleased to introduce Respondus LockDown Browser for use with Canvas Quizzes to “lockdown” a student’s browser during proctored exams. ![]()
